Introducing Chavet Johnson and Peter Taylor

We are in the middle of a series of blogs introducing our Journey team for this summer. If you are joining us for the first time, I encourage you to go back and check out those you missed. Enjoy the stories of how God lead each of them to give up their summers to serve in Africa!

Introducing Chavet Johnson:

134548_524205300942228_249286199_oWell my name is Chavet and I am a junior at Lincoln Christian University in Lincoln Illinois. I am currently studying psychology and business there! I am pretty involved at my school and I have a crazy schedule but i love it! I'm playing basketball which I love! I'm involved in a small group and I do a bible study once a week. I also do a prison ministry and I do another ministry called quest which is a program designed for at risked youth. I also have a power hour which I hang out with once a week!

I actually have had journey in my heart for a couple of summers but I was always afraid to apply. I thought it was going to be too long for me or I wasn't ready. I was a fool; I'm not sure what I was ever afraid. God has been working on my heart and after I went to Liberia last summer I knew I was ready. I went for 2 weeks and I did not want to come home at all. I knew I could handle a longer time period. I have had other friends go on journey and I've seen and heard what it has done in their lives. I wanted to go on journey because I love the way they are getting involved and I love learning about other cultures and getting the chance to show Christ's love to people all over the world.

I feel like God has given us a job. As He said in Matthew 28:19-20, "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” I just love this verse because I want to do what Jesus asked me to do. It is a plain instruction that will lead to hearing "well done my good and faithful servant." Not only do I want to hear that but I feel selfish not sharing the love of Jesus with others. I know what He's done for me and I feel as if everyone deserves the chance to know him.

Introducing Peter Taylor:

556133_10151526540352067_1607031907_nHello future brothers and sisters! My name is Peter Taylor, and I was born and raised in Cumming, GA. I graduated from High School last May, and now plan to move to Africa as a full time missionary. I started going on outreach trips with my family in 2005, and have made strong bonds with the Kenyans there. The amount of time i'll be living in Africa is uncertain, but I have committed to at least one year before coming back to the states. When I do return, I have no idea what I want to do with my life, and that is perfectly fine with me.

My favorite verse would have to be Psalm 27:1. Which reads, "The Lord is my light and my salvation- whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life- of whom shall I be afraid?"

Can't wait to meet you guys!
