Empowering the Next Generation

“I can honestly say, that without a doubt, Journey has been one of the best experiences of my life! I learned more about people, God, and myself during Journey 2011 than in countless years prior to that pivotal time. There were plenty of tears and personal fears that were released as a result of God using Journey in my life. If you are not seriously thinking about Journey, do yourself a favor and start praying about it NOW! If God wants you to go, he will make a way. All it takes is a simple step of faith and He will provide. The results will last a lifetime and chances are, you won't regret it.”

Johnny McLaughlin, 2011 Journey Intern

One of the reasons we do Journey is for testimonies likes this. Comments like this don’t fill us up or make us proud, but consistently turn our eyes and our praise towards Christ and his faithfulness in pursuing the next generation through Journey. When Journey completes, we try to make a point that our interns don’t go home and tell the stories of risk and chance in Africa or the awesome lion they got to see. Rather, we encourage interns to tell the story of how they encountered God over the summer; how He found them right where they were in East Africa. Stories of God’s abundant love being revealed to them through a child that consistently finds their hand, or of a family’s overwhelming joy despite circumstances of struggle or pain. Whatever the story may be, we simply praise the fact that it all gives evidence to Christ and His grace and love.

Thank you for keeping with us this week as we shared glimpses of Journey. If you have not yet found time to read the other posts, I encourage you to circle back and see what God is doing in this generation. I will leave you with a simple bit of truth we give our interns as they arrive for Journey and as they depart for home after Journey is over:

“So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.” ROMANS 12:1-2 (MSG)

Normally I would say this is our prayer for the next generation, but having been a part of Journey for the past 4 years I can tell you this is what God is already doing. We know that God is already working in the hearts of our 2013 team, and are excited to join Him in what He is doing in this generation. Join us in spreading the word about Journey.
